the book is very descriptive, yet reader friendly. I love that the publishers include the Evolve activities for learning. They are really helpful, as medical terminology can get a bit overwhelming and/or tedious.

This book was required for a vet tech program I was in (since graduated). Though the book was helpful, when the professor went over our answers with us it sometimes seemed to disagree with how the book taught it. Not sure which was actually correct, but it was helpful in learning what some specific veterinary terms meant.

Arrive a day late. Pages and cover were bent and bruised. The book is a great supplement for my vet tech classes and has very helpful and useful exercises. Already love this item despite the shipping mishaps.

Package came early by several days. Also the book is very easy to understand which is good.

Bert Kienzle's wartime achievements are essential reading for those interested in the Kokoda Trail and the war in the Pacific. The author has done a brilliant job in documenting them and at the same time revealing a family story of hardship, pioneering and achievement that is compelling reading.

What an adventure

This is by far one of the best books I have read in a while, where I have also learnt a wealth of facts and knowledge about a life and a time in history that to so many people is unknown and unimaginable in today's society. Many Biographies can be dull and lifeless, but I found myself absorbed in this man's life and adventures to the point where, before I knew it, I had finished the book and wished there was more.Definitely get yourself a copy.

Bert Kienzle is a remarkable person. From the few other histories I've read about Kokoda, it doesn't at all seem an exaggeration to attribute the foundation and success of the military organisation (and at times the deplorable lack thereof by high Australian and US command) down the Kokoda to this man. A special story of Australia, especially given its history of poor man's colonialism and the White Australia Policy. Early on, the author fairly and rightfully acknowledges the bias that may be inherent in her opinions as the daughter of the subject, that frame her account. For the first two thirds or so, this adds a depth to the story that would be difficult to produce by other, 'objective' authors and enhances the story. Unfortunately, the personal bias creeps in as the story beings to reach for it's conclusion. While it seems to lose the focus demonstrated in the first two thirds or so, some asides make clear the situation of the auther in regard to political and cultural allegiance. For example, a few derisive comments about labor strikes and members and colonial/Foriegn policies of the Whitlam Labor government, injects the last part of the story with an undercurrent of spite that detracts from the historical value of the perspective and the author's relationship to this history. There seemingly are always disagreements about policy and history, often bitter, and fairly so, but a sound contribution to history and the topic is not served by personal invective. I persisted in finishing reading this book, mostly because of my compulsion to finish what I start (even though 'Driven' and 'Rush Hour 2' pushed me to close to walking out of the cinema), and remained mostly dissatisfied and disappointed by the end, despite the excellent start. An editor should have insisted on toning down some rhetoric and trimming it by a couple of chapters. A worthy story, a worthy read, but I wouldn't recommend this book before a healthy list of other histories about Kokoda, particularly by Ham and Brune.

One of the first surprises was how effortlessly Steve brought the voice of a teenage boy to life. It’s a book I can encourage my kids to read. That surprised me, more than I like to admit.The stories Steve shares are each entertaining in and of themselves. He also weaves them together into a story arc that is compelling. He frames the entire sequence like a comedy show: Opener, Feature, Headliner. He casts himself in the role of each person, his own confidence matching the proficiency of each progressively better performer. It’s a compelling storytelling method.The book is also filled with bits of wit and wisdom, some worthy of a teenager, some evidence of much more maturity.Oh, and Steve is a baseball fan. I really like that part of the book.What I Didn’tSteve tells us about friends and does a good job of introducing each one. However, I read the book over the course of about a week. That meant I would set the book aside for a time and when I picked it up again. Like an experienced comedian, Steve would freqeuently call back to prior stories or people. It was sometimes hard to remember on later references just who he was referring to.By necessity, Steve had to pick and choose which experiences and people to focus on. He does a good job of building it all into a story. It also means that he touches on certain scenes or people and then moves on. Several times I found myself ending a scene and feeling I wanted to spend a little more time with the people I’d met. I’m sure I probably would have felt that way no matter how many words Steve had written about them.What It Means To YouI can wholeheartedly recommend Ginger Kid. If you are already a Redophile (A fan of Steve’s comedy) then Ginger Kid is going to give you some insight into how he became the comedian you enjoy. If you are new to Steve’s comedy, Ginger Kid is still an entertaining read. If you weren’t the nerd in high school, you probably knew him. If you weren’t bullied, you probably saw it happen.Ginger Kid is a hopeful story of how the geek, the nerd, the awkward kid, eventually grows up. We all have our high school memories. Ginger Kid lets you share in Steve’s memories.

As a talented standup comedian, Steve has had a lot of practice at storytelling. This well-crafted journey back through Steve's early years and the many experiences he had made me smile, laugh, get a little weepy, and even get angry at times (at his bullies). I recognized my own childhood bullies in some stories, as I think many readers of all ages will. It's good to know that there's life after bullies. I even got my mom into it by loaning her my ebook, and then she borrowed my hardcover copy to finish it. "His humor is in everything," she said. "Even the chapter titles."

As someone who actually lived through some of this with Steve, (no I'm not Hope or Alexa or Beth), I found this trip down memory lane hilarious. From elementary school, Hebrew school and USY, Steve has always been able to make me laugh, when he wasn't pissing me off. This book made me question if I was one of his bullies (haven't found me in the book yet), made me laugh at the stories about his family since I spent a lot of time at their house being friends with his sister, and miss the cheesebus! (Never thought I would ever say that!!)

As someone that would often fake being sick for a half-hour breather in the nurses’ office I found this book incredibly relatable - not just because we’re both gingers either. I highly recommend this book to anyone who felt like an outcast in high school. Even though it was so long ago, cause he’s so old, there is a bit of solace in knowing you weren’t alone...

Steve reminds us all that nobody really is perfect. Something every school kid needs to be reminded of. Buy it.
