Of course, no book can replace doing the work at hand, whether it's learning basic chords and fingerings as a guitarist, mastering the forms and patterns of a foreign language, or the art and science of breadmaking and brewing.But the author offers a great deal. As an active and longtime member of OBOD (the Order of Bards Ovates and Druids), and a student of the teaching of Dion Fortune (founder of Society for Inner Light, and one of the major figures in the authentic occult and magical tradition issuing from the U.K.), Billington draws on these streams, while shaping a coherent and profound entrance to Druidry. As she notes, you can walk the solitary path, or join a Druid organization. But making use of texts like this one can be a useful middle way. Sustained meditation on these stories will reveal much of use and value to the aspirant after a Druidry that is authentic simply because it is grounded in knowledge and practice.Billington also develops the idea of the three rays of knowledge, nature and devotion into a coherent and balanced teaching. I especially liked how, throughout the text, she raises at least as many questions as possible answers, and how in each chapter she points us toward finding our own answers, as a good teacher should. Finally, Billington's book is both orderly and spiraling, acknowledging that we return to the foundations, revisit the basics, at many different times in our journey, often to see them as new and fresh because it is we who have moved and changed and grown. Highly recommended.

In the past ten years or so many books on Druidry or druid spirituality have been published. This is not the best but far from the worst of the lot I have read. The scholarship is basically sound and in tune with the latest in archeology and analysis of what is known about the ancient Celtic peoples. Each "druid" book offers a slighty different 'take' on the modern practice, mostly offshoots of either the OBOD or ADF version. One can take their choice, combine aspects of both or forge off in new directions. This book can assist no matter which course one selects.

A beautiful book that gives wonderful insights into the Druidic path. I think anyone can benefit from reading this book for its honest respect for all of nature.

The author does suggest that we change our thinking about retirement savings and planning, and he does advocate that we focus on the now and the value of experiences over material things. Cool. That's great. But in presenting his practical examples and in terms of handling the actual money part of things, he presents the same old advice we've all read before. It's still "have 3-6 months (or more) of emergency savings and contribute 15-20% of your salary to your retirement savings". After that he guides the reader to save heavily in a third "bucket" from which other expenses and experiences can be funded. That's fine too, but his example cases seem to favor people who have high salaries, high equity, or are well past the point of establishing their emergency savings and retirement savings goals. The reality is that it takes most people years if not decades to accumulate the large piles of cash to support the author's advice. The one that got me was "Let's say you received a $10,000 bonus from your job." I realize he presents this only as an example, but it's not a real world example. And that's my beef with his book - most of his examples are not Average Joe examples.I applaud the author's enthusiasm and his desire to reshape the way we think about retirement, but I didn't get any life changing advice from the book other than to maybe remind myself again to value experiences (this was no great revelation, by the way). Whether you want to "retire while you work" or follow the more traditional retirement advice, It still comes down to the dollars and cents and how much you can save.

I absolutely loved it. For those of us who worry all time about wether or not theyâ€™re making enough money to retire comfortably, read this book!!! Stop stressing and looking for that magic number that will make your future. Instead start living now. Realize by working long hours youâ€™re giving up a chance to enjoy being with your family, friends and opportunities to experience your world.

Davidâ€™s book is an essential read for anyone that is serious about enriching their lives in every way possible. You can tell how much he cares for his clients/readers as evidenced by the values and simplified investment concepts (buckets) he teaches in his book. As a Financial Advisor myself, I will definitely will be adding â€œThe Currency of Timeâ€ to my recommended reading list for my clients and friends. I enjoyed this book because it struck a healthy balance between the hard-core, invest every penny till your 55 crowd and the new age, live-for-the-moment crew. Adams urges people to be smart and responsible, but bucks the trend in his industry by letting people know that it is OK to spend some money for the important things in life. I have always liked Dave Ramsey's fire and passion but the fact is that his philosophies can be hard to apply if you are past the age of 40 and didn't start investing in junior high. Overall great job by a first-time author with a subject he is passionate about and knows very well.

This book was easy to read and totally deconstructs the traditional concept of retirement. Instead of teaching people to save and quit working, this book encourages people to plan for and enjoy a meaningful life while saving for future needs. Actionable steps are easy to follow, and I like how people at any income level can relate to the content. Overall, great, thoughtful book. You can tell the author really cares about the happiness of his readers.

I was within a few months of reaching an age where I would be available to retire when I read this book. My days and nights had been filled with thoughts like, can I really do this? to put it simply I was Scared! After reading David's book I found peace in my decision to retire. I was so impressed with what I had read I found myself telling all my friends about it. I even ordered 3 more for each of my children. I think this book should be used in our schools. I remember reading about Shyima Hall in the news: a girl kept as a family slave, literally right under everyoneâ€™s nose. Itâ€™s one thing to hear about such things happening. Itâ€™s quite another to have it so close to home. (She was in Irvine in Orange County. I was living in Tustin, an adjacent city, during the time.) Some years later, when I heard about her memoir, Hidden Girl: The True Story of a Modern-Day Child Slave (Simon & Schuster, 2014), I was eager to have a chance to read her side of the story.The book begins with Shyimaâ€™s younger years in Egypt, her family plagued with financial difficulties. While the author doesnâ€™t excuse her parents handing her over to work for another family, the book does show the reader why they probably felt they had no other choice. Kept as a slave, eight-year-old Shyima tolerated substandard living arrangements, received no education, and had no time for herself. It was work day and night. She kept track of time passed by the birthdays of her ownersâ€™ children.When her owners decided to move to the United States, they went to a lot of trouble to make sure Shyima joined them. Shyimaâ€™s life of slavery continued over here, until someone dropped an anonymous tip about the suspicious girl to the police. Now free, Shyimaâ€™s struggles didnâ€™t end. She faced court trials, foster family drama, and the struggle of trying to find her place in a very different culture. But in the end, you can see that sheâ€™s happy and optimistic about life and eager to educate the American public about the modern-day slave trafficking problem.Hidden Girl is a great book, taking its reader through a whole range of emotions. Cowriter Lisa Wysocky did an excellent job keeping a very foreign and little girlish voice to the narrative. And it was encouraging for me to learn that the Orangewood Childrenâ€™s Home (with which my old church had been involved) played a positive role in helping her. The book is good evidence that â€“ even though thereâ€™s a lot of social and economic issues abroad â€“ there are real problems here at home that need our attention too.

What a compelling memoir. I cannot believe people could be so cruel as the Mom and Dad were, to treat a child the way they treated the author. She describes movingly the years of slavery, and the amazing day when she was rescued. This is a very inspiring story about the years-long battle to regain her life, health & sense of self. She is an admirable person who has accomplished much, and wants to help people who have been trafficked. We can all keep our eyes open and make an anonymous phone call if we suspect someone is being held against their will. We just need to know the signs, and the book gives us those. Iâ€™m so glad this book was written. It lifts me up to see all the good people who came into her life and wanted to help her. What a book.

Shyima's story reflects the story of too many children who have been indentured around the world. She describes the injustice of her situation, the betrayal of her parents, and the inhumane treatment from the family who held her captive. Despite her bondage she manages to break free emotionally and creates a wonderful life for herself, which she describes throughout the pages of the book.

This is an interesting story of an Egyptian girl, Shyima, who was sold into slavery by her own parents! This is not uncommon for very poor large families.The family who owned her called her 'stupid girl' which stripped her of her identity. Finally they took her illegally to America and she continued to work as their slave. Eventually she became free, hardly realizing what that meant. Shyima became an American citizen and started a new free life, having to start her education late. She did a lot of work to speak out against slavery of this type. This is a good book, although not the best in writing style, but it gets the emotions and sad facts across. I have read a few books about domestic slaves and this one has a happier ending.

This modern day slavery of girls in Egypt is so sad. I saw this girl on Dr. Oz and immediately got her book. I'm so very happy that she was able to get out of her horrible situation. I have so many questions about this selling of your own child because of poverty. I hope she makes a nice amount of money from the sale of her book. She deserves it.

This was one of my favorite reads of 2014. I had caught wind of Shyima's story in the news, so when I found that she had written a book detailing her experience, I was compelled to buy it. It is written so simply, from a child's point of view. Also, as English is not the author's native language you can tell that she has chosen her words very carefully. It is a tale of a very sad experience, and you can't help but cheer on the author as she works to overcome her situation and see her abusers punished. She is a survivor, and you will find yourself willing her to keep on. An excellent book!

This but is thought provoking and at times hard to read. But we'll worth reading, just keep some tissues close by. It gives a lot of good information as well.I am so proud of you Shyima, you are an inspiration to me. I was sexually abused as a child by my dad, but the abuse you suffered is so far beyond comprehension I can't even tell you.The fact that you have made the choice to become a strong, happy, productive woman and mother is more than anyone could expect for you to do ,but I personally am so happy those are the choices you did make. Like you said, you could have turned inside yourself and lived the life of a victim, but you didn't and I am so, so proud do you for that decision.Also, thank you for writing this book.
