This is a great first novel set in the same world as the Brownstones, an Earth connected to another planet which is based on magic.Diana Sheen, an FBI agent, is recruited to join a black-ops organization to fight bad guys with magic. Each agent in the group has some form of magic. Diana does, too, but she is ambivalent toward its use. On her first mission, she discovers her magic is stronger than she thought and evolving. She is also adopted by a young troll who chooses the name Rath.I enjoyed the book and I think you will too!
I really enjoyed this new story line (the new Troll), and it fits perfectly into the Oriceran universe.Though, I will say that some of the terminology, facts/features about, including the handling of, and some physics, regarding firearms, was incorrect, but regardless, is a fantastic read, that I finished it in one sitting. I only wish that number 2 was already in my possession.☺
Love the characters, especially Rath and Max. "We are the law." Well written good guys versus the bad guys. They have special toys reminiscent of James Bond. Training is a must for all team members. Great action and surprises. Nice clean book good for all ages.
A great first story. I only have it four stars because for me it was hard getting into it until about half way into the story. But once it for me I realized it is a great story. Looking forward to the next book.
Diana is a very strong young woman. She has survived the military and PTSD from several dangerous campaigns. Starting out she is in the FBI and is developing magical abilities. Though they help her in fights she is keeping them a secret. Unfortunately or Fortunately people have noticed and she is recruited to a magical black-ops program. Not much romance in this book, but there is an adorable troll she saves and becomes bonded to because she saved him from an evil mage. The troll rides her dog Max and takes him training. It is hilarious! The troll's name is Rath but he thinks he is Rambo! Can't wait for book 2.
I enjoyed the story and will try the next in the series. Why I didn't give a 5-star rating. When I chose this book I didn't realize it was from multiple writers and one of the other writers is one I had decided not to read anymore. Thankfully this story wasn't the "smirk-fest" I expected. Although the use of smirk was abused. Get a thesaurus for dogs sake.
I really like the new series. Diana is tough and learning more about her magical abilities while excelling at being an agent. I love the interaction with her friend from the bar and dojo and I really like that Rath and Max are such a good team. This is shaping up to be an interesting and fun ride.
