I have been using the MLA 8th Edition and I have nothing but wonderful things to say about that new update. It's much less bulky and easier to understand than the 7th edition. This 7th edition has way too much going on with the requirements of publication place which is now optional in the 8th Edition. Basically, this 7th edition is obsolete because there are so many changes in the 8th Edition and the 8th Edition is cheaper so this book is not used anymore.
I have many MLA handbooks but none as thorough and as simple to read as this. If you actually take some time to sit down and read this book instead of looking up just what you need, you will find some excellent step-by-step guidelines to help write papers, even if you find writing difficult. If you have a brain block in how to start a paper, this book will unlock that block quickly. We all have difficulty in starting and finishing a paper; the in between seems to be easy. We search and search for the correct sources that might earn you a good grade and that will be useful in effectively writing. This book has a lot of them listed. This book encourages you to calm down, clear out your head and start here - then everything is good.
This is an older version of the MLA handbook. I usually use this style - but there are some things about the style I'd recommend changing. I usually use a loose style somewhere between the standards because the writers that work with me rarely manage to follow all of the rules and there are only so many components I can change. In the end, if the info is there the style shouldn't really matter.
I only bought this book, because the speech professor I had this summer had it listed on the syllabus. I personally didn't even use the book not even once during the entire 5 weeks, and still managed to get an A on all my papers. Plus nowadays sites can automatically to the citations for you.
I have used this book extensively since I began my Master's degree program, and I have been very pleased with both the content and simplicity of use. Having been out of school for several years, I found myself confused as to how to correctly cite various types of media for a bibliography, but this great book is loaded with examples of how to correctly cite any type of media.From book citations to internet websites, this book conatins complete chapters along with detailed examples of different citations and how to correctly place them in a bibliography. The text is comprehensive and easy to understand. I have referred to this book numerous times to find a correct citation, and every time I have been able to find an example of the citation I was looking for.I give this great book my highest recommendation. It is a necessary tool for any student who is required to write a research paper. If you're having trouble finding the correct way to cite items for a bibliography, then check out this great resource. You'll be sure to find what you're looking for inside.
A FABULOUS book for paper writing. It is, perhaps, a bit advanced for college freshmen, but they should all be required to have it. They'll go back again and again. The book is clearly written, offers multiple perspectives, and is lovingly thorough. If you are in school BUY THIS. You will not regret it. I got it my senior year and was furious that I hadn't known about it sooner.
I can honestly say that I use ebooks and my laptop for most things I formerly used hard copy books for. However, I like a tangible medium I can actually flip back and forth in, while I leave my work on the screen. I'm older, but quite comfortable using my iPad and laptop for most tasks. I found leaving my "work" in front of me and this book to the side an excellent way to stay focused on a paper I'm writing.
I have a different version of this book from high school, but the spiral spine has since fallen apart. I purchased this as a requirement in college, and it is my go to book for MLA papers. I think the examples provided are very good and can help anyone achieve a great understanding of how to write and cite papers properly.
